Beginning with the environmental site assessment of Means Hall during the feasibility study through the LEED IAQ testing immediately prior to occupancy of the new James Cancer Hospital and Richard Solove Research Institute, L&A completed more than 15 individual assignments, covering a wide range of environmental issues, in support of Project One. Our primary focus was the management of hazardous building materials prior to facility renovation and demolition. L&A was tasked with providing complete assessment, abatement design and abatement construction administration services for RDJC MEP Upgrades and the McCampbell Hall Renovation. Additionally, we replaced the existing environmental consultant to perform onsite monitoring and clearance sampling during the abatement of asbestos-containing materials prior to the demolition of Cramblett Hall. The abatement budget for these projects totaled more than $1.8 million. L&A was also tasked with preparing the Environmental Assessment for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act in order to obtain federal assistance for the project from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), monitoring fugitive dust emissions during the demolition of Means Hall, MRI Building, Cramblett Hall and associated connectors and managing moisture and biological contamination concerns during construction of the James.
