PORTAGE AREA REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY

The Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority retrofitted an existing maintenance facility to add a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station and a CNG-safe maintenance bay. The project used Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds, which required National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) clearance and Section 106 coordination with the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).

L&A used our experience with FTA requirements to develop a streamlined approach for preparing the Categorical Exclusion (CE) Checklist. Along with updated ecological studies and SHPO coordination, we utilized publicly available data and past studies for the site to prepare the CE. This approach resulted in an efficient and cost-effective FTA approval.
