Lawhon completed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) of a 96 acre site located in Mahoning County. This property was comprised of agricultural, wooded and overgrown land slated as the future location of the NiSource Cryogenic Plant in Eastern Ohio. All activities were performed in conformance with the scope and limitations of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Designation: E 1527-05, Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments: Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Process, and All Appropriate Inquiry CFR 312.20.Pursuant to this standard, L&A reviewed and analyzed available property records and historical photographs for current and past uses. Federal, state, and local lists of hazardous waste sites were reviewed to determine if the property was listed, or if any neighboring sites with the potential to impact the site were identified. City, county & state agencies were also contacted for records of problems associated with the sites. A detailed site investigation was performed to determine if there were any adverse environmental conditions present and to identify any hazardous materials at the site. L&A also conducted interviews with persons knowledgeable about past and present uses of the subject sites. At the completion of the Phase I ESAs, L&A generated a comprehensive report of findings and provided recommendations to address streams/wetlands and gas wells identified on the site. All activities were completed within two weeks of authorization to proceed.
