CITY OF TOLEDO
The Marengo Street Bridge is in a residential neighborhood over a ravine containing a tributary to the nearby Maumee River. The historic truss bridge, built in 1915, deteriorated to the point that it was closed to traffic in 2016. Engineering studies indicated that the bridge could not be rehabilitated and was proposed for replacement.
L&A provided environmental studies and completed the D1 Categorical Exclusion (CE) document for the replacement of the historic structure. Since the bridge was determined to be eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), the Purpose and Need and comparison of alternatives were critical to the CE document. L&A provided our NEPA expertise to assist the design team with developing a comparison of alternatives to meet the requirements for the Section 4(f) programmatic approval.
