Ohio EPA, DERR - River Valley Local Schools in Marion, Ohio

L&A developed a geophysical, surficial and subsurface soil, and ground water investigation for Ohio EPA NWDO at the River Valley Local Schools in Marion, Ohio. The area for this investigation encompasses both the grounds of the school and a section of the former Marion Engineer Depot (MED). The MED was the largest military depot in the United States during the Second World War and continued in operation for approximately 15 years post-war. The main priority for this investigation was to identify the existence of any environmental and/or human health hazards that may exist on the school property and to identify potential pathways for human exposure. L&A conducted a multiple tasked investigation designed to confirm the presence or absence of residual chemical or radiological contamination left from the operations of the Marion Engineer Depot. Conducted the field investigation, which involved collection of geophysical data, surficial and subsurface soil sampling, and ground water sampling for Ohio EPA. Once contamination was found, the State of Ohio turned the project over to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for extensive sampling and clean-up.
