State Route 104/ State Route 762 Intersection Improvements
Lawhon & Associates, Inc. staff completed the Phase I archaeology survey for the State Route 104/ State Route 762 intersection improvements (PIC-104-19.10; PID 17550). The project area incorporated 228,000 sq ft (21,181 sq m) within a project area consisting of grass-covered lawns and portions of agricultural fields along each road. Services provided consisted of historic records and literature review, development of an historic context, field reconnaissance, data analysis, and National Register of Historic Places recommendations. The field reconnaissance inventoried two new prehistoric sites and one new historic artifact scatter. The historic scatter may have been remnants related to a mid-1800’s community meeting house located on historic mapping as being at this intersection, but little remains to mark the location today. A Phase I survey report was submitted that detailed the findings of the survey and the site evaluations. All three sites were recommended as not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places due to lack of site integrity.
